Generally speaking tomato sauce (ketchup) has a shelf life of 1 month unrefrigerated once opened.
There are exceptions:
If the sauce is “low salt” or “low sodium” it should be refrigerated after opening as the salt is a part of the preservatives.
If the room temperature is going to be over 28°C it is best to store in the refrigerator.
If you won’t finish the bottle contents in under a month keep it in the fridge
A Solution
If you don’t go through your tomato sauce quick enough or live in a hot environment you can get a 250ml squeeze bottle AND a 2 litre bulk bottle of your favourite sauce. You can then top up the small bottle as required and leave it in the pantry and have the larger one in the fridge tucked away out of the road.
